Julius D. “JD” Spain, Sr. won the open Arlington County Board seat with 58% of the vote (65,635 votes) on November 5, 2024. This historic victory made him the first military veteran to serve on the Arlington County Board since 1997. A lifelong Democrat, JD campaigned to strengthen community ties and advocate for equitable attention and respect for all Arlington residents. JD is committed to addressing the critical issues that impact the Arlington community—regardless of zip code or socioeconomic status.

Meet JD

JD Spain, Sr. is a retired Marine Corps combat veteran and a business leader. JD previously served as a federal investigator, Arlington County civil service commissioner, and NAACP Arlington Branch president. He has been an Arlington community leader since his military family settled here 15 years ago, and he is ready to lead Arlington to build a better future.
